Introduction to Illinois Advance

Overview: This presentation is designed to introduce Illinois ADVANCE, a new resource for Illinois prescribers. We will focus on academic detailing (AD) services available in Illinois, which is a personalized means to help improve prescribing practices. This webinar will cover topics such as the background of AD and its impact on prescribing practices.  We will also review the establishment of an AD program in Illinois and will cover the variety of AD topics and services provided by the clinical pharmacists of Illinois ADVANCE.

Rucha Patel, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist /Academic Detailer
Rucha is a clinical pharmacist and clinical instructor with the Medication Review and Academic Detailing department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She graduated with a bachelors in Biology from UIC in 2010 and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Chicago State University in 2014. Soon after obtaining her license, she worked as a Pharmacy Manager in a retail place for 3 years in Michigan. After moving back home to Chicago in 2017, she was given the opportunity to transition into a managed care role at UIC where she reviews prior authorizations for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Practices, is a preceptor for pharmacy students, and plays an integral part in the pain and diabetes management team. Rucha has also been trained by experts at NaRCAD where she was able to develop the skills to become an academic detailer. Her primary interests include pain management, patient counseling, and education outreach with patients and prescribers.

Stephanie Cooper, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist/Academic Detailer
Stephanie is a clinical pharmacist with the Medication Review and Academic Detailing department through the University of Illinois at Chicago. Stephanie received her PharmD from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville School of Pharmacy in 2012 with focus on addiction and psychology. She has 15+ years of experience in community pharmacy and 7 years of management. Stephanie has had a strong focus on building physician and pharmacist relationships and incorporating team engagement efforts to support positive patient outcomes. She started with Illinois Advance in March 2020 and has been trained with the Illinois Advance team and experts with NaRCAD. Stephanie is located in Springfield, IL and looks forward to expanding the collaboration with UIC through central
and southern Illinois.

Katie Miles, PharmD, BCPS, Clinical Pharmacist/Academic Detailer
Katie is an academic detailer with Illinois ADVANCE and a clinical pharmacist/clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy. She received a BS degree in biological sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2013 and a PharmD degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy in 2018. Katie completed a PGY1 residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts in 2019 and a PGY2 residency specializing in drug information at UIC in 2020. She is based in the St. Louis area to collaborate with prescribers in southern Illinois.

Chirag Rathod, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist/Academic Detailer
Chirag is a clinical pharmacist, supervisor, instructor and academic detailer with the Medication Review and Academic Detailing department at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University in 2012 and has been working at UIC ever since. During his time at UIC, he has been involved in prior authorization, collaborations with the College of Pharmacy, College of Dentistry, and College of Medicine at UIC, teaching Medical Improv to medical and pharmacy students in addition to his academic detailing efforts, which include program planning, creating educational material for detailing, training staff and detailing prescribers. He trained with NaRCAD in 2019 during their Spring Training Series to develop his skills as an Academic Detailer. His interests include performing improv, teaching medical improv which utilizes the techniques of improvisation to improve communication skills amongst current and future healthcare practitioners and collaborating with prescribers in a variety of settings with a focus on improving overall patient care.
