The Illinois Department of Public Health School Health Program is offering a continuing education opportunity to improve adolescent-centered care, identify an emergency and crisis response plan, manage diabetes in youth, and learn to provide emergency help for mental health crises.

Learning Outcomes

Participants of this event will learn:

  • Cultural behaviors that affect a child’s ability to adhere to recommended self-management of diabetes behaviors
  • Indicators of students on a path to violence and how to respond
  • To describe situations that constitute a disaster at school as well as the four phases of emergency planning and the incident command system
  • To increase awareness and provide practical information related to mental health issues in youth

Continuing Education Credits

The IDHS/DDD, as licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to sponsor continuing education units (CEUs) for training events, is reviewing the program for approval for 5.0 CEUs for the following licensed attendees: Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).   

Each person seeking continuing education credits is required to complete an online evaluation within 30 days in order to be eligible for their certificate. Certificates will be e-mailed within 60 days after the conclusion of the training to participants who have completed an evaluation.

Overnight hotel room accommodations are the responsibility of the registrant. A block of rooms has been reserved at a special rate of $135 per night. Room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes.
