Re: Free webinar for healthcare providers on pediatric substance misuse
Rationale - Alcohol misuse is a leading risk factor for morbidity and mortality related to both intentional and unintentional injury in the United States. One of the proven strategies is alcohol screening and brief interventions which takes advantage of “teachable moments” and can be delivered in health care, university, and other settings to identify people at risk for alcohol problems and get them treatment as needed.
Opportunity - As part of our CDC-funded injury and violence prevention project, we collaborated with DocAssist to provide a free webinar to providers on screening adolescents for substance misuse and using motivational interviewing. The aim of this webinar is to provide healthcare professionals with the skills to identify and address alcohol and substance misuse in their patients. The goal of educating providers about adolescent substance use is to build the skill level and confidence of the providers to identify and treat substance use as well as improve outcomes for patients and prevent injuries that are associated with pediatric substance use.
Visit the DocAssist website to learn more about pediatric substance misuse and view the free webinar at www.docassistillinois.org. The website also has information and resources that can be implemented in the primary care office.
