IPHA Call to Action - Illinois Tobacco Quitline is in danger of shutting down!

IPHA CALL TO ACTION

The Illinois Tobacco Quitline is in danger of shutting down! Governor Rauner has suspended the funding effective immediately. We can’t let this happen!

The Quitline is an extremely important resource in our state. Last year alone, it received nearly 96,000 calls from smokers who needed help to quit. It saves lives and saves our state millions of dollars in health care costs.

Here’s what our state faces every year:

  • 18,300 Illinoisans die from smoking.
  • $5.49 billion in smoking-related health care expenses, which means $986 in taxes taken from every Illinois household, every year.

The Quitline is an invaluable tool in the fight to reduce the heavy toll of tobacco in Illinois, and it’s cost-effective. We need your help today to protect it.

Tell Governor Rauner: Don’t shut down the Quitline! A draft email template is available below to assist in your message to Governor Rauner.

Sincerely,

Ralph Schubert
