Date: May 10, 2022
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Event Category:

THIS TRAINING IS FOR IBCCP LEAD AGENCIES AND OTHER INTERESTED HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS.

As a result of this program, learners will be able to define cancer health disparities and explain the multilevel determinants that contribute to disparate cancer outcomes.

PRESENTER

Dr. Min Jee Lee is an Assistant professor in the Department of Population Science and Policy at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee specializes in health and healthcare disparities. The primary focus of her work involves understanding how racial, socioeconomic, and geographic disparities in access to appropriate patient-centered care lead to suboptimal health outcomes.

Currently, she is focusing on cancer prevention and survivorship improvement. Her research 1) elucidated the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations in preventing cancer, 2) promoted an increased knowledge about HPV, the HPV vaccine, and the association between HPV and cancer, and 3) described cancer survivorship and outcomes such as cancer-related health disparities. Dr. Lee’s goal is to help prevent and reduce HPV-associated cancers through the HPV vaccine and to help improve survivorship outcomes among cancer survivors. Dr. Lee seeks to understand factors associated with HPV knowledge and vaccine uptake and develop interventions to improve HPV vaccine uptake, especially in Central and Southern Illinois.
