IPHA Associate Executive Director Jeffery Erdman to Present at NACCHO's 360 Conference in July

Jeffery Erdman, IPHA Associate Executive Director, has been selected to speak at NACCHO's 360 Conference this July. This presentation, Flexing: Utilizing Social Media to Reach Young Men of Color for HIV Prevention, will share successful electronic health communications/social media strategies to build local health department staff competency in utilizing new technologies (web, social media, texting) to reach young African American and Latino men who have sex with men with HIV prevention messaging where they routinely socialize.

Young African American and Latino Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) currently have the highest rates of HIV of any populations in the U.S., with some epidemiologists likening these rates to levels seen in sub-Saharan Africa. While these special at-risk populations are in dire need of HIV prevention services, few local health departments across the country have expertise in delivering timely electronic HIV prevention messaging specifically targeted to young MSM of color or creating effective HIV prevention social media campaigns to reach these young men of color.

With decades of nationally recognized expertise in HIV prevention messaging and HIV prevention social media content development specifically targeted to African American and Latino MSM, the Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) has developed a training course for staff of local health departments to assist them in utilizing electronic HIV prevention messaging and social media strategies to reach YMSM of Color with effective HIV prevention communications to end the HIV epidemic.

This session is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20, 2022, from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Register for the NACCHO 360 Conference today to explore how the local public health workforce and its stakeholders can move forward in the midst of an ongoing crisis while implementing traditional and innovative approaches to restructure a system built to protect the health of communities nationwide.
