Introduction to Health Policy and Legislative Advocacy
IPHA PHEd Talk: Introduction to Health Policy and Legislative Advocacy
Date: October 13, 2022
Time: 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. (Central)
Location: Zoom
The COVID-19 pandemic gave contemporary meaning to 19th-century physician Rudolf Virchow's observation that "all medicine is bound by politics." We have long understood that solutions to public health problems lie not only with the best available science but also in bold policies for social reform. Public health's greatest achievements - from sanitation infrastructure and workplace safety to seat belt laws and tobacco control- are all products of policy change, informed by public health research and catalyzed by the concerted efforts of advocates.
Join the Illinois Public Health Association for this free webinar to learn about the importance of advocating for public health, the difference between advocacy and lobbying, how local public health leaders can advocate, ways to become an effective advocate, and the resources available to you.
Speaker: Conny Moody, Director of Policy and Procurement, IPHA
