Addressing Stigma and Bias to Provide Gender Affirming Care
Guest Speaker
Roslyn Taylor, PhD, PMP; Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago (PHIMC)
Description
The need for comprehensive, medically necessary, life-saving, affirming care is critical to the health of TGD/LGBTQ+ people and is not readily accessible. Affirming care recognizes, validates, and affirms the identities of and oppressions felt by individuals and creates collaborative healthcare environments, which improve treatment, care retention, and health outcomes. It also decreases experiences with discrimination, stigma, and bias and helps to increase the number of people who access and remain in care.
