This presentation will highlight the critical importance of preparedness in protecting the health and safety of communities before, during, and after public health emergencies. We will provide an overview of how the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) coordinates responses to crises such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other health threats. Special attention will be given to how IDPH prioritizes and supports underserved communities to ensure equitable access to resources and care. Finally, we will explore how Community Health Workers can play a vital role in emergency preparedness and response efforts by partnering with IDPH to strengthen outreach, communication, and trust at the local level.
