Beyond the Checklist: Culturally Humble and Trauma-Informed ACEs Assessment for Vulnerable Mothers, Children, and Teens

May 19, 2026 | 9:00am - 10:00am

Guest Speaker

Nura Elmagbari, MS - The Healing Trauma Institute

Description

This training equips providers with practical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive strategies for conducting ACEs assessments with vulnerable mothers, children, and teens. We will explore how to move beyond checklist-based screening toward relationship-centered approaches that prioritize trust, dignity, and emotional safety. We will address how to engage families in ways that honor their lived experiences, cultural identities, and potential histories of systemic harm. You will learn how to minimize re-traumatization, obtain meaningful informed consent, and recognize the impact of provider bias and self-awareness on assessment outcomes. You will learn how to conduct assessments that are time-conscious and human-centered and feel more confident in your abilities to assess ACEs in a safe, respectful, and empowering way. You will receive actionable tools, language strategies, and real-world applications that can be integrated into clinical and community settings. Applications will improve engagement, accuracy, and longterm outcomes for the families they serve.
