Generational Trauma and Youth Experiences: Parenting and Professional Approaches to Recognition, De-Escalation, and Healing
Guest Speaker
Lynn Lidbury, LCPC, ATR-BC; Kim McArthur, LMSW; Summer Walker, MSW Intern - Oak Woods Center Counseling
Description
This training integrates cultural humility with generational trauma, trauma experiences of youth 8 years and older, trauma activation, and recognition of non-verbal behavioral cues. You will learn how the intersection of these is key for discernment of the youth environment, self-reflection, and necessary steps for a trauma-informed response in the medical provider, school, supportive service, and non-profit settings. You will be immersed in stories from Lynn’s experiences as a foster parent of youth experiencing ACEs, and both parenting and professional approaches to de-escalation and healing. Through this interactive training, you will practice tools to approach youth trauma responses while also regulating your own behavioral and emotional reactions to not elevate or activate each other’s trauma. You will learn intrapersonal techniques while providing care, such as supportive inner dialogue and spiritual imagery, in tandem with practice-facing modalities.
