The Hepatitis B Functional Cure: Where We Are and Where We Are Going
Webinar Topic
Research toward a functional cure for hepatitis B is advancing, but progress in the laboratory only matters if it reaches people. Please join the IPHA Hepatitis B Outreach and Education Program for a webinar to assist public health professionals in learning where hepatitis B treatment is heading, and to keep attention focused on what makes any future cure useful: finding the people who are living with hepatitis B, connecting them to care, and preparing health systems to serve them.
The webinar will address:
- The current burden of hepatitis B globally, nationally, and among the most affected populations
- The difference between viral suppression and a functional cure
- Emerging research, presented through study populations, treatment duration, follow-up, definitions of a functional cure, outcomes, limitations and unanswered questions, rather than a single "cure rate"
- Screening, linkage to care, treatment eligibility and prevention of transmission
- How health systems can prepare for future therapies, with implications for Illinois
