The Power of Planning
Webinar Topic
We all have the right to make sure our wishes are known and respected. It’s not easy to think about needing help making health care or financial decisions because of a sudden accident or a progressive illness. Yet, putting our wishes into writing can create tremendous peace of mind. Creating advance planning documents, like Powers of Attorney for Health Care and Property (& Finances), can reduce family conflict, avoid costly and restrictive court proceedings like Guardianship, and ensure our wishes are honored. Think of a Power of Attorney like car insurance: You hope you never need it, but you’ll be glad you have it if you do!
Join the IPHA HIV and Aging Program and Attorney Lissette Ortegon of the Center for Disability and Elder Law, and leader of the statewide Power of Planning program, to learn more about Powers of Attorney and other advance planning tools through this important webinar! We will discuss the importance of advance planning and how to have these difficult conversations. Learn about Power of Planning’s new free, easy-use website to create Powers of Attorney for Health Care and Property (& Finances). Leave knowing how to support clients, patients, friends, and family in creating their own POAs. And gain the inspiration to take the time to make these important documents for yourself!
The Power of Planning is a new program designed by the Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) in collaboration with Illinois Legal Aid Online and made possible by funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health to empower individuals from diverse communities, such as those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) and those aging with HIV, to engage in advance legal planning.
