Topic Description

 

This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the main areas of public health practice. This course will provide students with an overview of career paths within public health, and introduce them to specific jobs within those pathways. Public health practice is broadly defined into the following core domains: 1) Biostatistics 2) Epidemiology 3) Health Services 4) Health Systems Management 5) Research 6) Clinical Preventive Services 7) Health Policy and 8) Maternal and Child Health While this is not an exhaustive list, it does provide the general outline of many career paths.

After completing this course, student will be able to understand:

  • The main public health career pathways
  • Specific jobs within those general areas of practice
  • The wide range of opportunities within public health practice
