Smokin' in the Boys Room: Updates from the Illinois Youth Tobacco Survey
Topic Description
In this session, we will present the results of our newly conducted survey on youth tobacco use in Illinois. This data provides a timely look at how our state compares to national trends and what these patterns mean for the health and well-being of young people. Our presentation will highlight key findings, including current tobacco use rates among youth and how they have shifted over time. We will explore the broader impacts of tobacco use on adolescent health, from physical effects to mental well-being, as well as its influence on school environments. Educators, parents, and students themselves report significant challenges related to tobacco use in schools, and our findings will help shed light on these concerns. By sharing this data, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the issue and spark discussions on how to best support youth in making healthy choices. Attendees will leave with a clearer picture of where Illinois stands and what steps can be taken to address tobacco use among young people.
