Public Health Impact Statement: Firing of ACIP Independent Vaccine Experts
The Illinois Public Health Association urges HHS to immediately reinstate the members of ACIP who were abruptly removed on June 9, 2025, and reestablish ACIP through an open and transparent process that includes diverse and expert voices. The U.S. is currently experiencing an unprecedented growth in vaccine hesitancy and an increasing number of outbreaks of preventable disease. While IPHA agrees that transparency is key to restoring trust in immunizations the destruction of ACIP, which for decades has been the trusted voice for public health organizations, the medical community, and the public by safely guiding vaccine recommendations for our country will instead have a negative effect and ultimately may put the lives of adults and children at risk.
