Make Your Voice Heard: Comment on Proposed Census Changes by November 2
The federal government has proposed significant changes to the 2030 Census that would affect how residents are counted for congressional apportionment and how race and ethnicity data are collected. The proposal would exclude certain non-U.S. citizens from apportionment counts and restrict the collection of race and ethnicity information.
The Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) strongly opposes these changes. Accurate, comprehensive Census data are essential to understanding community needs, identifying health disparities, planning effective public health interventions and directing resources where they are needed most.
Public comments are being accepted through November 2, 2026.
IPHA is submitting a formal letter urging the federal government to maintain inclusive residence criteria, preserve race and ethnicity data collection and protect public participation. You can read our letter here.
We encourage public health professionals and community members to review the proposed changes and share their perspectives before the deadline.
Submit your public comment by November 2.
