Libraries and Fiction as a Resource for Community Health Workers
Guest Speaker
Ayanna V. Buckner, MD, MPH, FACPM ; Community Health Cooperative
Description
Community Health Workers must have access to appropriate resources and continuing education opportunities to adequately support the communities they serve. Libraries have played a key role in public health activities such as COVID testing and vaccine distribution, but they remain an untapped resource for many community health workers. This presentation will explore how community health workers can develop partnerships with library staff and use fiction and nonfiction books in their health education activities. The presentation will also share trainings and resources available through the Network of the National Library of Medicine and National Library of Medicine that are relevant for community health workers.
