The Role of Public Health in Carceral Settings
People in prisons and jails experience many health inequities as they are disproportionately likely to have chronic health issues, as well as substance use and mental health problems. By applying a public health approach, we can effectively improve health outcomes for this population. Participants will learn about the impact of the jail population on public health and how LHDs and CBOs can collaborate with corrections on issues such as opioid use disorder(OUD) and Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR).
