IPHA Statement on New IDPH Director
IPHA Congratulates New Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Sameer Vohra On July 12, Governor JB Pritzker appointed Dr. Sameer Vohra to lead the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) beginning August 1. Dr. Vohra is the Founding Chair of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Department of Population Science and Policy. Dr. Vohra is a general pediatrician who holds degrees in law and public policy and follows Dr. Ngozi Ezike, who stepped down in March. “The Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA) congratulates Dr. Sameer Vohra on his appointment to Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. IPHA looks forward to working with Dr. Vohra to continue improving the public health system and the practice of public health, with a focus on health equity and improved health throughout Illinois. These are critical times for public health in our state and throughout the nation and as partners in this effort, IPHA will seek opportunities to work collaboratively with Dr. Vohra and the IDPH team to ensure improved health for all Illinois residents,” said Tom Hughes, Executive Director.
