National Radon Action Month
National Radon Action Month is held every January to increase the population’s awareness about radon — a radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless, and found across many homes in the U.S. You can’t see, smell, or taste radon but it is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in America and claims the lives of about 21,000 Americans each year. Exposure to radon is a preventable health risk and testing radon levels in your home can help prevent unnecessary exposure.
This month serves as a opportunity to promote radon testing and mitigation activities and promote the use of radon-resistant practices. CHC uses the last week of January to observe Radon Awareness Week. Find out more about radon here.
